Top Court Reporting Schools

If you are considering a degree in court reporting, there are about 85 on-campus court reporter schools for you to choose from. And there are about 1 court reporter schools online that you can consider.

Approximately 300 students graduated in the US with degrees in court reporting in 2010. In 2010, the three largest court reporter schools in the nation were:

  • Miami Dade College (Miami, FL)
  • Cuyahoga Community College District (Cleveland, OH)
  • El Paso Community College (El Paso, TX)

Court Reporting Salaries and Career Outlook

Many of those with a background in court reporting pursue a career as a court reporter. If you decide to go this route, you will be joining the ranks of an estimated 39, 970 court reporters in the US, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The largest population of court reporters is in Maryland state, which, in 2010, had over 3, 160 court reporters. The government projections show that by 2018, there will be close to 46, 700 court reporters working around the nation. The projected growth in this field is faster than the projected growth for all careers nationwide.

You can expect to make an average salary of $47, 281 per year if you decide to become a court reporter. But, factors such as seniority or education can cause your salary to vary. Based on these factors, your salary as a court reporter can vary from less than $30, 050 to more than $66, 022 per year.
